Hello! Welcome to my stop on the Beyond Fairy Tales Blog Hop. I am very glad to see you.

Today, I’m wondering about whether you write with music in mind. I have to say, I tend to finish each story I write with a sort of soundtrack or ‘playlist’ in mind. The songs can sometimes have lyrics that remind me of certain scenes, or be things that I think one or more of my characters might think, feel, or say. Sometimes, the songs that make me think of my stories are just the songs that were played most while I was in the car brainstorming the next bit.

I can’t pretend I’ve even stayed true to the songwriter’s intent for their song, always. For example, “I hope You Dance” features in the playlist for ‘Her DollMaker’s Desire’, and I know this is more a message from parent to child, but it’s Peder talking to Amy, for me.

The full playlist for the book is currently this (but it could yet grow as I often hear songs at a later date that ‘fit’.):

In truth, I struggle not to re-use song choices from book to book, especially when I write heroes with similar characteristics – the flawed hero, or (my favourite) the broken one.

Giveaway Time!

I have two giveaways for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

bookTo be entered into a random drawing to win this book of Hans Christian Andersen fairytales, please leave me a comment to tell me what you think about authors who provide a list of songs that either inspired them while they wrote, or say something extra about their characters.

For those who might not know, ‘Her Dollmaker’s Desire’ is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘Dance, Dance, Doll of Mine’, so I am spreading the HCA love.

Please note, I will post internationally.

There is also a Rafflecopter, sponsored by Decadent Publishing and Babs Book Bistro.
